okay so today i started cross country, and near the end i hurt my ankle, and i think i might of pulled something or sprained it idk but it hurts, and i'm wondering if it still hurts tomorrow should i go or not because i can barley walk on it i have to limp, and i know they wont go easy on me.what do i do?

also today was pretty hard for me and they say today was the last day you would probably feel ok and the rest you would be sore. i dont think i have what it takes and im thinking about quitting. should i just not show up anymore because its only been the frist day. and what im nervous about is the one coach is the tech teacher and the other is the guidance counselor, so if i quit im worried there going to call me out and ask me why i stopped showing up. and i cant tell them in class cause school has not even started yet.

  1. Quit for now, and rest so your ankle healed better. And if you can, join in later on, but if you cant than is ok because it could lead to sereve damage.

  2. Don't quit. (Unless you've really decided you don't want to continue.) However, tell the coach what happened. They'll probably advise not to run on it for awhile. And they may suggest having it checked by a doctor.

Meanwhile, soak it in cold water to minimize swelling and help reduce pain. Also, take an anti-inflammatory (aspirin or something similar).

And, whatever you do, don't just stop showing up. Be straight with the coaches.

  3. dont panic i tried out for cross country also, and i quit too. it is hard and i had the same prob cause the cross country coach is the science teacher and i freaked out too! but dont worry everything was fine the next day.................... just rest and let your ankle heal!!

    =)

  4. ICE, ICE, ICE! Ice it often. And just tell the coach what happened and if they keep making you run then they aren't good coaches. If you don't heal, then your ankle will haunt you for the rest of the season. You won't have to quit, you'll just have some extra rest days. If your school doesn't have a stationary bike, bring your own to practice and try to find a place to ride, it is a great workout and a good alternative to stop all the pounding of running. You won't have to quit. Truthfully, about 3 or 4 days ago a twisted my ankle pretty bad, but it didn't take that long for it to heal, but then today, I twisted the same one again, but I'll be back in a couple of days. Hope this helps.
