You can't just give yourself a nickname.  Nicknames are given by friends/family/etc. and are usually aquired through some defining life experience or a play on/shortenting of your name.  How lame would it be if someone asked where you got it and you were just like "I made it up".

'Ace' Buchan - short for Adrian

'Parko' - short for Parkinson

Jay 'Bottle' Thomspson - not sure where it came from but I'm sure there is a cool story behind it
