I need an easy way to extend an existing wall lite fixture to come over the top of our new cabinet.?

Here's the scoop....We have a lovely bathroom light fixture with a center mount of 4". It has 3 light on the bar with the center one at the wall mount. I just bought a beautiful surface mount medicine cabinet. And now much to my dismay, the lights are not far enough out from the wall to provide the proper lighting for the mirrors on the medicine cabinet. I don't want to replace either. So I wonder (other that recessing the medicine cabinet - yet) is there any way to find some way to extend the light fixture another 3 inches out from its present mount...??? It would be great to hear any ideas,

MOST LIGHT FIXTURES ARE MOUNTED ON A BASE PLATE,THAT GO'S ON THE WALL,THE THE OUTER PEICE GOS ON AFTER THE BASE IS INSTALLED,IF THIS IS THE CASE TAKE THE TOP SECTION OFF THEN MOVE THE BASE PLATE DOWN ,YOU MAY HAVE TO USE WALL Anchores TO SECURE THE BASE PLATE, BUT THAT FINE,

   THEN PLACE THE TOP SECTION BACK ON THE BASE AND GET-R-DONE.

Lavasuze, this is easy, it is really a matter of extension of the existing wire run. Disconnect the wires from the light unit, you can buy some plastic wire connectors for a couple of dimes. Alternatively you could buy an "Junction Box" and use that to extend the length of the wires. You can add on any length of wire, so you can then put the light where-ever you please..........Good luck with your redec.

You could build a small wood frame to mount the light bar on to bring it out an extra couple of inches.  only the ends of the frame would probably show if you do it right so you could stain or paint them to match the light bar or medicine cabinet.  You can also get 4" extension boxes to bring the electrical box out further if you need to do that for mounting the light bar.
