I am planning on buying a wireless netgear router to use with my ps3 and I am not sure if i need the modem that I currently own or just the router. Do I also need telephone cable to connect it to my computer.

  1. If your computer is currently connected directly to your computer, you will need to put the router in between so you can connect your PS3 and your computer to the router.

You will need an ethernet (not phone) cable, unless you are on dial up, which is not going to be worth playing ps3 on.

  2. If you are planning to get a router for PS3, you will definitely require a modem.  The router will connect to the modem and through an ethernet cable, your netgear router will connect to your modem-also using an ethernet cable.  Once your router is connected, you will need 2 more ethernet cables:  One connecting your router to your computer and about from your router to PS3.  If you choose to use your TV, there are additional instructions for that as well.  Those instructions should be found in the quick reference guide.  I hope that helps
