I don't know how much they typically costs. Can anyone give me a general idea in Texas? Thanks!

  1. You can draft and type a will and/or living will and have it notarized for little or no cost to you.  If you know a notary public they might not charge you anything.  You can research living wills on the computer and use as a guideline or you can obtain a living will form from most hospitals and healthcare providers.  Fill it out and have it notarized, place one copy in a safe deposit box or wherever you store important papers, leave a copy with your doctor, leave a copy with a close friend or relative and keep one at home for immediate use if necessary.

  2. You can create your own for free. You can pull up a sample online, and type something similar, and get your signature notarized. It's perfectly legal.

  3. I know that a living will is not as good as a living trust. With a trust you don't have to worry about probate which can be very costly for you and or your beneficiaries. I'd hazard a guess at about a few hundred dollars depending on who you go to...
