  1. Try using cinnamon...the flavor goes great with apples. If you don't want to use actual cinnamon, add cinnamon sugar to the filling. It gives the same flavor, just a tad sweeter.

  2. a little cinnamon is great in an apple pie.  or if you want to, you can serve your pie with something for pizzaz like, whipped cream flavoured with cinnamon, caramel ice cream, sharp old cheddar  cheese, pour a little evaporated milk on warm apple pie, yummmmm

  3. Pastry

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    3 ounces butter, cold

    5 tablespoons water, ice cold

    Filling

    5 large tart apples

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1/2 cup brown sugar

    2 teaspoons breadcrumbs

    Egg Wash

    1 egg yolk

    2 tablespoons milk

    Directions

1To make pastry, cut butter and lard into flour with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2Scatter water on mixture, mixing with fork until dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill about 30 minutes.

3Divide into 2 balls. Roll out one portion to fit a 9 inch pie pan, leaving 1 inch of pastry at edge.

    4Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

5Core, peel and thinly slice apples. Toss with cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice in a bowl.

6Sprinkle bread crumbs evenly over pie shell.

7Arrange apples slices on top, leaving as little space between slices as possible. Pile slices high but do not mound in centre.

8Roll out other half of dough to fit top of pie.

9Brush edge of bottom crust with egg wash made by blending beaten egg yolk with milk.

10Place top layer of dough on pie.

11Tuck top layer under bottom layer of dough around edge of pie. Crimp edges with fingers to form fluting.

12Prick pie with fork in at least a dozen places to let steam escape.

    13Brush with eggwash.

    14Bake 15 minutes.

15Reduce oven temperature to 400 degrees F and bake 15 minutes, then reduce to 325 degrees F and bake 20 minutes more, or until crust is golden brown.

  4. Cinnamon is a great idea.... nutmeg (as someone else suggested) is also a great idea.

Something else to be considered is add a very small (and I mean very small) handful of raisins. All together there should be between a tablespoon and a quarter cup.

Even if your child or grandchild don't like raisins, they may enjoy them in an apple pie, because they absorb the juices from the apples and become even sweeter.

And, if you're making a two-crust apple pie (not a crumble-top or German apple pie) consider taking a couple of egg whites and brushing the top of the crust with it. This will give the crust an added sheen and make it look even more delectable!

  5. Mix ground Cinnamon with brown sugar. This will enhance the flavor of your apple pie.Eat it warm with vanilla ice cream.Everybody loves it.

    Yummmy

  6. what are these people talking about..

I have Never seen an apple pie recipe WITH out cinnamon..

but their Ideas of adding other fruit is sound

    then maybe nuts even marshmallows

    Cooking requires your imagination

Don't forget you can thicken with tapioca.

  7. cinnamon is definitely a compliment to apples... maybe add a vanilla glaze on top and some cool whip.

    serve with vanilla ice-cream

  8. add dried cranberries/cherries?

  9. Try using nutmeg.  Nutmeg is the one ingredient in cooking that makes people question "What is that?  I can't quite place it but its good."  I have had nutmeg in pizza crust, AMAZING!

  10. Cinnamon would work yeah. Although, instead of making an apple pie, try making an apple crisp which is basically like an apple cobbler.
