How about the Mormon polygamist sect in Texas? There will be plenty of information on it. Additionally, there will be a lot of Mormon history that you could infuse your story with. How did these people decide that polygamy was acceptable? What is the history behind polygamy? Is there any information on how the polygamists raise children? Do the wives have different roles than the men? Is there some sort of misogynistic undertone is the society? Are the men and the women usually separated throughout the day? Why?

There are so many different directions you could take if you were to cover this story, I feel.

a young girl in B.C, Canada escapes a close abduction while walking around the block one evening. the abductor told ehr to get into the car, grabbed her and hit her over the head with a pipe hoping she'd go unconscience but she was able to break free and ran home......for more info, link is here:
