Question:

I need audio to configure and test my surround sound system?

I have recently purchased a surround sound system and I would like to tweak the speaker placement, delay, and volume levels.

I would like some sort of test tone better than the simple static already provided by the hardware. In addition, is there some audio that contains neat sound effects that utilize the surround sound - mostly so that I can judge it by more than just its calibration tones.

It is a Dolby 5.1 system with ProLogic II, and the audio files I am seeking would have to be regular audio files that can play from a CD or USB drive - like an .mp3 file.

  1. search google for "audio test" or "audio signal" or "audio tone"

  2. All you really need to do a good set up with out actually using computer meters is a tape measure to set the distances for the delays and an spl meter to check the level and match it using the sound from the receiver.  If the receiver actually has a set up mic then use that.  It actually does a pretty good job.

you can buy a spl meter at radio shack.

  3. Avia giude to home theater dvd and an spl meter.
