  1. Simply placing pictures of different insects and contact papering them over the blocks tend to add to the play.  It's great to be able to use the correct size of insects...I see children ordering them by size when I do something like this.

Contacting large pictures of insects to the floor or at floor level leads to measurement with blocks.

  2. How about the game "Cooties"? That is building and they can build their own insect.

  3. Here is a great link for some out-of-the-ordinary block activities:

Along these lines, if you choose to use shoeboxes for stacking and building, you could go with the caterpillar / butterfly in the cocoon or have children build "homes" for insects from blocks and supply small (but not too small!) plastic insects in the block center.

Look through the books you have available to illustrate how different insects make their homes (for example: bees live in hives, etc.)

    Have fun!

  4. They could build "where the bug would live" with the blocks, its fun easy for you and it makes them think and be creative

  5. Build bugs,,, spiders with long legs, ants....  Or maybe an ant farm pathway system that they can "walk" toy ants on.
