  1. You can download many audio books no longer under copyright at

    http://www.gutenberg.org for free.

If you don't know a title, put a type of book you like into the 'search site: Term' search box on the left, and scroll down the list you will see. Any book with a megaphone by it is available as an audio download.

ADD: Project Gutenberg has more books available (in more forms, like audio) than any other legal site I know.

You can also get good audio books at your local public library (free, sometimes available for download: call them first to see), as well as from many bookstores, both new and used.

The only sites I know that offer audio readings at times are authors' sites, and then they are often only excerpts. One I like a lot that I believe goes to completion is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, complete with animation.

http://www.markhaddon.com  You'll have to explore the site a bit to find it, but you will without much trouble. (Hint: take 'the virtual tour.')

Suggest you make links to your favorite current authors to see what they might offer.

Suggest even more, and once again, that you use Project Gutenberg at the first link mentioned, and enjoy listening to books at your own pace.

  2. I don't know of a site, but most libraries have recorded versions of books you can check out for free.

You can choose between cassettes, CD's, and some even have these things called PlayAways you can borrow.

  3. do you mean free audio books?

    Try here:

    http://librivox.org/librivox-catalogue/

it's a site with free legal audio books.
