  1. Radiation comes in the form of photons, bundles of light energy that bounce and zip around.  Light energy is absorbed by atoms, and it is transferred to heat energy, heat being rapid movement of the atom.

So have one person be the "white" atom, and carry a white piece of cardboard or wood.  Have a second person be the "black" atom, and carry a black sheet of cloth or blanket.  Have the other three people be photons.

The play starts with the white atom stage left holding the white barrier toward center stage, and the black atom stage right, holding up the cloth barrier toward center stage.  The photons start in center stage and begin running around wildly, bumping into each other and the two atoms.  However, they can't get through the white barrier (they are reflected), so the white atom is cooler.  The photons can get through the black cloth barrier, and when they do, they grab onto the black atom and "energize" it (shaking and tickling that person), so the atom moves around (heated up).  After a while, all the photons will be absorbed into the black barrier and will have heated up the black atom - you need to pay that actor a bonus for all the abuse they'll get.

  2. It depends on the results of your project.  You could get different people to act like different color/types of material and get someone to act like the radiation. The radiation could show the differences.
