I need door k**b help?

well im finally gettign a door k**b with a lock on my bedroom door. and i was reading the box and it says privacy lock no key needed. so does that mean that i can lock the door adn my parents cant get in at all?

No ,they will get in. A passage lock is a lock with no lock. A privacy lock is used for the bathroom normally,and has a hole on the other side to unlock it with in case some kid gets locked in. It has no pin tumblers inside,so it doesn't need a cut key to get in just a little flat piece of metal inserted into the hole. If you want a lock that uses a cut key, then you want a entry lock. Your parents knew what they were doing,or just didn't want to spend that much more money. Entry locks cost more. Sorry but you can not adapt the lock you have ( privacy) to fit a cut key and yes your parents can come in any time they have a mind to. Sorry kiddo. Byee

It is their house. They pay for the mortgage, the electricity, the gas, the taxes, etc. They can come into "your" room whenever they want. They own the air that you breathe.

No, if you look at the other side of the door k**b you will see a small hole, that hole is used to unlock the door without a key.

If one side of the k**b has a small hole in it someone can stil unlock the door.Even if its got a lock it has to be able to be unlocked in case of emergencey

What are you hiding from your parents?  You live there and I'm assuming do not pay rent-- they have every right.  

As for your door k**b, as mentioned in earlier answers-- the little hole can be used to unlock.

Dino:  I know that your privacy is important to you, and I'm sure that your parents snoop into your room.  But putting a lock on your door is not the answer.  Grow up a little, act responsibly and let your good attitude be your passport to good things in your life.  Remember that locks only keep honest people out, just about any houshould lock that you put on can be easily opened.  Best of Luck, take those creative juices and put them to positive use.
