I've 3 white cloud minnows and one on them seems to have some sort of disease. It is a much darker colour and has red (blood) marks on it's side/fins. The fish have been in the tank for only 1 day. We tested the water beforehand and everything was fine.

What could be wrong with this fish and is there anything I can do to help it?

  1. what they have is not ick so do not waste your time treating for ick

based on your discription I would treat the tank with Melafix it covers several problems and covers your sympitoms

  2. Take them to the vet!

  3. well i had fish with red blood markings on the body / fins found out it was swimbladder  disease, if it is that theres two things that would cause it,  The first could be ammonia poisoning , just adding fish to a tank can trigger a mini cycle in the tank,So first I would check the ammonia and nitrites and make sure they're at 0 ppm.  If they're not at 0, do a water change and just monitor the levels until they level out to 0.If the ammonia and nitrite are fine, then my next guess would be an internal bacterial infection called septicemia or hemorrhagic septicemia.  Best treatment for this would be to use an antibiotic/medicated food. Good Luck :D

  4. if the fish looks to have rotted fins its a fungus disease AKA  fin rot pet stores are usually sloppy and leave dead fish in there aquariums so next time watch what you buy and look at other fish for disease symptoms the pet assistants will lie and say their fine so you buy it the disease spreads and you end up with dead fish and buy more trust me it happens
