I need flooring help!!!

I have a customer that wants me to raise a floor for them and he wants me to use the backerboard as the regular floor, instead of putting down plywood first. I told them that it would not hold but I want someone elses input. Please help. Thank you

  1. It is international code that requires you to use at least a 1/2 inch OSB on any subfloor. Durarock, or cement board cannot support the weight that would be required. Subfloor is required, not an option, he is just trying to cut costs and he can't there.


  2. if you need help with any flooring problems, call ifloor.com

    it's their specialty. call them and ask them anything you want. they will help you.  

  3. Tile backerboard is cement board.  It is NOT designed to carry a load.    

  4. There's no way it will work. There's too much flexibility and any tile placed on it will crack at the joints.

  5. I have seen extra think backerboard used by professionals.  The stuff is about 5/8th inch thick.  It doesn't give.
