  1. wow...that's a toughie

    some ones that ive heard:

Hi-ya! (for the kids just  starting out who've no idea what they are doing)

Hup! (a lot of people i know use this one, usally doing quick techniques)

Ho...! (used by one of my friends when he does a slower technique. It drones on too unlike the other shorter sounds ive heard. Comes from the stomach.)

Ha! (used by a friend of mine for any of his kicks of techniques. Kinda sqeaky sounding. Comes form the throat.)

Sai! (what i personally use. pronounced just like the weapon but the "ai" sound drones but not much at all. Very echoy [new word!] and relatively intimidating. Its a shorter sound but like i said it drones somewhat.)

Ai! (comes straight from the gut. A very looooong yell)

Pow! (not like from batman and robin. A friend of mine uses this almost a second after his technique. Super delayed reaction. It drones oooooooonnnnnnnnn. The stress is on the O sound and its kinda shrill.)

Hoi! (a fellow master at my school whos got a really deep vioce uses this one. Comes from the gut.)

say-a (kinda like a finishing more noise. Has a strong S sound)

High! (almost like a wooping noise. Very strong i sound. Can be very long or very short. Bruce Lee used whooping high pitched noise kinda like this one.)

Well...I have no idea if that helped or not. I couldn't find you a web page. Just so you know for your project, in taekwondo we call that "noise" a Kee-Yup. pronounced just like keyup, its not just used to control breathing but to fire the user up and to channel their energies. If in a sparring match it can be demoralizing to an opponent if one uses a very loud Kee-Yup. It also tightens the stomach muscles so Kee-yupping when you get hit can absorb a blow. Hope all goes well, sorry if this was no help at all.

  2. It's called a kihap in Korean or a kiyai in Japanese. There are no particular sounds that you have to make. Technically you don't even have to make a sound but just blow all of the air out. I will tell you the different kihaps/ kiyais I've heard.

    Ki-ya!

    Uh-ya!

    Uh-sa!

    Hai!

    Yup!

    Oh!

    Hai-ya!

    Ai!

    Whaaaaa!

    Ahaaaaa!

    Pssft!

    Ya!

There are many more and you can make up your own of course. The main purpose of the kihap/ kiyai is to get all of the air out of the body to harden to body to receive or deliver a strike. You can actually do it without making any sound at all but the other purpose of the kihap/ kiyai is to strike fear into or intimidate your opponent.
