  1. The best reference I can locate mentions that gasoline dropped from 25 cents/gal in 1901 to 3 cents/gal in 1902, due to the discovery of Spindletop, the first Texas oil well.

    Most reliable data doesn't go that far back.  Even the federal gov't data on'y goes back to about WWII.

  5. Gasoline was not a sought after commodity then as it is today. There were almost no cars on the road, and few internal combustion engines used in farming or industry.  You would not have been able to find gasoline unless you lived in an area with a refinery, and those were few and far between.  Besides all that, the formulations used today are very different from the "gas" you would have found in 1902.
