I need a cage for a hamster, a syrian to be exact.

I need something that will fit on my desk but nothing too boring. I don't want something huge and stupid, I just want a small, realistic, occupying and nice cage!

  1. I found a large selection of cages at Pet-Smart

What ever cage you chose, I recommend a cage that is light and disassembles easily for quick cleaning.

Bars may not be such a good idea, because your hamster will chew on them instead of it's chew toys- which will hurt it's mouth.

If you do find a good cage that's really boring, try adding some cage accessories.

If you find a cage with low ventilation, it's a good idea to use odor absorbing bedding.

When you have tubes attached to your cage, a frightened or lazy hamster might stuff all his bedding and food in one of them, and stay in there all the time.

  2. First, all three that the first person sugested are way to small for a Syrian. They need more room than it sounds like your willing to offer. They do need a *** cage and they dont look stupid. I suggest make a bin cage. They are big, cheap and fun.

  3. hi i brought a habitrail ovo on tuesday when i picked up my  disabled russian dwarf hamster which he loves and we also have a syrian hamster which would be fine in the same type of cage.

  4. Absolutely avoid those "OVO" cages. They are the dumbest product I have seen for a while. Nothing beneficial for a hamster, just looks "cool" for the younger kids that buy hamster stuff.

From my experience, I think the BEST cage that a syrian hammy can live in is also the cheapest and most convenient to clean. I used to buy large rubbermaid tubs, and attach wire mesh on the sides and top. They are really large and roomy. A hamster does not need silly tunnels and things to be happy. Just a large, spacious cage. Not to mention that it is so hard to clean those cages with all the add ons.

Here is a site on making tub cages: http://www.petwebsite.com/article_read.a...

By the way, you want a tub that is at least 2x1'.
