I need great ideas for redoing the top of side tables cheap?

I got these great side tables but the finish is c**p so want to do something really special with the tops. They are about 1x3 on top. One will go in a room with sage and white colors, the other I don't even know. I like the broken glass idea, but where do you get it ? lookin for somethin a bit different but CHEAP, LOL. thanx in advance for ANY advice

some paint stores have returned paint you can purchase

at a great price. i would get the colors sage and then a

white wash paint. put the white on first and then the sage, and then use a thing that looks like a big comb to give it a different effect. OR go to diynetwork.com (do it yourself network)

You can call any glass company, and ask about leftover broken pieces, or you could call a sign company and ask for scraps of colored plastic.

If a new house is being built anywhere near you, see if you can get ceramic tile left-overs, or carpet remnants.

You could go to a Lowes or Home Depot and gather laminate kitchen counter samples, and glue those all over the tables' top.
