I need to get health insurance. I have no job and No income so i have no way to get health insurance. I went to the state to get health insurance and I was not eligable for Medicare. I live with my father and I qualified for another health insurance through the state but I have to pay full premium because my father makes just over the amount they classify as POOR. Im 18, with a serious blood disorder (Hemophilia) and no doctor will help me w/o health insurance. Is there any other health insurance or help I can get?

  1. Contact United Way in your area and ask if there are any public health clinics that provide free health care. If you feel well enough to work, some companies that need employees to answer phones for customer service 24/7 often provide health insurance to part time employees. If you are unable to work apply for Social Security Disability plus SSI which is emergency funds that are paid in additional to the Social Security Disability. Use the SSI funds for your immediate medical expenses, social security has a six month waiting period so benefits begin after that time period. After you have been on Social Security Disability, you are eligible for Medicare (not Medicaid which is what I believe you have already applied for) after 24 months..During the 24 months you are waiting to be eligible for Medicare, continue to live with your father so you can use your Social Security payments for your medical expenses instead of rent, food etc.

In the worse case scenario, go to your local Emergency Room, they treat the uninsured.and may have information on how to get you other permanent help.

  2. you can find ANY type of health insurance at http://www.COMPAREusINSURANCE.com

  3. You do have the option of discount medical benefits.  The plus - they decrease the cost of what you have to pay out of pocket and they're very inexpensive.  They also cover the entire household so your father could enroll for it and you'd be able to use them.  They accept everyone - even with pre-existing conditions.  You do have to go to their providers so be sure there are doctors with them in your area.  Check the link to see if it might work for you.

  4. A lot of what is available will depend on what state you live in but most states will have health insurance programs for those who are younger.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program is a no cost or low cost option in most states and you may be eligible for your State's "SCHIP" plan even though you are 18.

Here is some more information on SCHIP:

  5. No private health insurance company is going to take on a hemophiliac.

You're going to have to get a job, and get health insurance through your employer.

Bonus, that will solve the no income problem.

Your problem isn't the lack of health insurance - it's the lack of a job and lack of income.  Those are NOT winning lifelong strategies.  You have to work, to get income, and the health insurance is just a bonus.
