I'm starting from scratch so any help will appreciated.

I would like somewhere with cheap rent, near to princes street if possible...or I guess somewhere that isn't impossible to get back to from work or club/ bar areas.

will accommodation around this area be very expensive? what area should I be looking for?

thanks

oooh, and any other tips you could offer would be great. I've gotta start looking into this so I can live in that great city (I'm a Dub btw :) )

  1. Agree with the first answer.  I lived in Gorgie, which is handy for Princes Street as its on a good few bus routes.  You can walk back on a Fri/Sat Night, or get as far as Haymarket when taxis are easy to get when they're heading back into town.

Southside/Marchmont are good, but Student areas.  Stockbridge is handy but more expensive

  2. Buy a one way ticket into the zoo.  Free accomodation all the food you want and a lovely daily bath.  15 mins on local bus network to Princes Street.

Book quickly as to avoid disappointment, as fringe is on soon.

Have a lovely time and remember not to annoy the lions?

  3. You won't get anywhere near Princes Street at a cheap rent unless it's only a room you're looking for.

  4. I recommend Bruntsfield - central - nice and an easy walk home after a night out.

Alternatively marchmont - again central - and quite studenty.

By the way I'm English and I've had no problems up here.

  5. Nowhere if you are English, they dislike the English up there.

  6. Anywhere non central is more affordable than the city centre. You can get into the centre using the frequent & cheap buses in no time at all. Buses cost £1 flat fare, £2.50 unlimited daily travel & some buses run every 4 minutes. From Portobello, about 4 miles from the city centre takes 20 minutes, From Leith takes 10 minutes. 7. Leith or Abbeyhill are the cheapest yet most central places rent maybe 200 pounds per month. It was 160 when I lived there but that was a few years ago.

  8. if you wanna live central,be warned it is costly!aprox 1000 per month for a flat near cental area, gorgie and dalry, haymarket, leith walk, old town etc are all ridiculously priced, you prob wont qualify for council housing, unless your present circumstances dictate so(homeless, connection with edinburgh, work etc, there are currently 24.000 on list!)areas such as portobello are a bit less expensive, outlying areas and ex council houses in less popular areas are also cheaper,as are multi story flats (ex council0shared flats are an option, espec round the meadows and newington, which are fairly central, look on sites such as gumtree for rented accom.or evening news(local paper)
