Im currently in Year 8 at my HIgh School (Aquinas College,Melbourne, Australia) and Im involved with the Aquinas College Symphonic Band, which I have recently found our is touring new zealand next year. I Want to go but the catch is that it is $1700 for everything. Also next year is the Liturgy trip which I also want to join. This trip will go to Paris, Rome and the Vatican City. This trip will cost around $6000 dollars. I really want to do the both trips and I don’t think of them like a holiday.

My Parents said If I put the money in for New Zealand, they would pay for The Liturgy Trip. But they cannot pay for both.

My Dad has also been interested with me being interested in investing into the Australian Stock Market.

I need to make up $1700 by next year. I don’t necessarily want to tap into my savings unless they are the deposit for the shares (Il spend around $500 on shares)

Is there any other way I can make money. Also If I do start in the Stock Market, what are some good shares?

  1. ..Why not get a normal paying job?

  2. hmmm, lets see, you have shares and you don't want to tap into your savings .............

you don't actually need help you are doing quite well for yourself

maybe you could get a paper round and deliver newspapers in the mornings on your bicycle

  3. Well darl..what a lucky boy - being able to invest in shares at 14!!  You would get an allowance being private schooled and so on....save it.  Watch the stock markets....rio tinto, abc and coles/myer are good ones - get some financial advice from an accountant and make sure he is savvy.

I am sure your parents could afford a personal loan which you could help pay back if the funds aren't completey raised by the time they are needed.?

Have a garage sale, do odd jobs for neighbours - i don't know - use your imagination...You have the right start - passion..so all the best.

    Good luck.

  4. if your going for shares "Apple" is a good one to invest in though u might not make too much ca$h because the shares would be too expensive.

  5. heloo from sydney :)

your crazy. your in year 8 and u want to invest in shares. my dad does that for me. ive got shares in telstra. apparently they are really good

  6. Depending on what instrument you play why not get your busking licence?

Its good cause you paid to practise you music and it gives you experience working to a crowd alone.

I would not recommend this if you play something like the Tuba or Timpani Drums.

  7. you can get a job at 14 and 9 months, thats the legal age.

  8. umm .. david .. you've given out a h**l of a loto of detail re who you are and where you can be found.. and that your parents are a little better off than many people.. (n.b and that's good for them not criticising them)

and Given the kinds of people that can lurk around online... Can I give you a little of advice .. DON'T REVEAL SO MUCH ABOUT YOURSELF ..as you can make yourself a very accessible real life target...

You sound like a good kid ..and I hope you manage to make both trips... BUT please be a little more careful online.

  9. 14 Year olds shouldn't be investing in the stock market to try and go overseas use your savings and by the time you get back you'll be old enough to get a job. The stock market is pretty volatile at the moment if the USA goes into recession shares will plummet and your money won't be worth the paper their printed on.

  10. Yes just get a job.
