  1. You need to get a mixer with many inputs, an amp (at least 500 watts), two Technics turntables (if you're spinning vinyl), two variable-speed CD players, one Shure SM 58 microphone (wired or wireless), at least two speakers (Electro-Voice or similar), and a laptop PC (optional, for loading and playing all your music).

  2. Best way to go for a small time DJ is to start with a portable hard drive and a decent laptop. These should go on the cheap check tiger direct for high gig and desent speeds. Hard drive should be under 150 bucks.

You should scale your speaker system depending on the size of the function. Depending on where the reception is there might already be equipment available on location. Other then that check around garage sales for different size speakers and get an audio converter so you can go PC=regular sterio speakers.

Get as many as you can because you need to account for what the locations going to be like. Go too big, and your too loud. Go to small and nobody hears.

You should be able to use a simple out jack into a sterio base then go out to the speakers.
