The dimension of the box are: L=42.5" H=31" W=11" Weight is 37 lbs - Shipping this regular via DHL (the cheapest) will cost my sorry a$$ a whopping 581.34 cents. Are there any cheaper alternatives? Any 'out of the box' ideas are greatly appreciated.

  1. If he knows of a friend that is coming; take it with him on the plane?

Or perhaps disassemble it and send it in different packages?

  2. Are you talking about Gifu, Japan? You might be better off with couriers - looking for Americans or others travelling to Japan on holiday and seeing if they'll take parts in their luggage. Can the carrier be broken down into smaller pieces?

  3. You may want to look into a company like Bongo International http://www.BongoUS.com .  They will set you up with your own US address so that you can make purchases from any US based online store…even if they don’t ship internationally.  Have the goods shipped to Bongo’s warehouse and they will consolidate all your orders and have them shipped to your door as one shipment.

The cost of this item through them (they ship via DHL) is $308.29

Seems much better than your original quote from DHL.
