  1. basically what the guy above me said.   if its not clear, your problem takes the form a^3-b^3, a cubed minus b cubed, where a=1 and b=x.

You can look up the expansion formula in most math books.

    Or, to be more helpful: a^3 - b^3 = (a+b)(a^2 -ab + b^2)

    so, 1- x ^3 = (1+x) (1 - x + x^2).

    Hope that helps.

  2. 1 - x^3 = 1 + x + x^2 - x - x^2 - x^3 = 1 + x + x^2 -x(1 + x + x^2)= (1 - x)(1 + x + x^2)

Good luck with your daughter. You always have Y!A
