1. Why must water be treated before drinking?

Information: I know becasue most liquid fresh water contains dissolved chemicals and living organisms that might make you sick if you drank it. Even clear mountain streams may need to be treated before you can consume it.

What else??

2. Why it is important to find new sources of fresh water and to conserve sources now available?

I didn't get this question.

1. Disease causing microorganisms is the only reason in most parts of the country.

2. Our population is growing so we will need more water to satisfy more people. Our climate is changing because of global warming and so our traditional sources of water might dry up. In some areas development has displaced water sources and thus reduced those sources ability to satisfy our water needs. In large parts of the country, especially in the mid-west and desert areas we are relying on ground water for our water needs and pumping it faster than it can be replaced and so those areas will eventually run out of ground water.
