I need help choosing a starter in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Okay..so um..here is the deal..I have chosen my main to be Chikorita..but am unsure of weather to choose either Totodile or Piplup for the partner,which do you think would be more suitable?

Piplup cause I had totodile as a partner before and it sucked.

piplup should be better cause it has more water attacks. it'll come in handy if you're in a fire dugeon

Piplup is good for long-range attacks, since it learns Bubble and and Bubblebeam. But it has low stats. Totodile is good since he has high HP, Attack, and Defense stats. Since Chikorita learns Razor Leaf early on, I would choose Totodile.
