I need help choosing a subwoofer.?

i have an rca amp of 1000 max watts. i only want one sub but i dont know what kind of sub to go good with the amp. help!

My friend, I've said it before and I'll say it again. RMS power ratings are all that matter!!! Find that out, then match it up with a subwoofer's RMS power rating.

There is a little bit more than just matching the RMS rating of the amp, but as was stated, you need to find out the RMS rating of your amplifier to approriately match it to a driver, because the max ratings mean nothing.

If you like tight, crisp, clean bass, 10 in a sealed box is my preference. Ideal for rock with fast bass (aka double bass pedals)

12's are more suited to rap/hip hop, as they usually provide more powerful bass. The drawback to a 12 is that it tends to "bleed" a bit, and what I mean is that the bass hits blend together a little bit more than a 10 would. You can get nice sound from a sealed 12, although a 12 in a ported box is ideal if you want loud and powerful bass.

For Clarity, I really like JL's line up. I run a JL 10w3v3 in my car and I love it, its perfect for me, but it still has plenty of power to make the mirrors fuzzy in the car with rap and hip hop. My sub in the factory box will run you between 250 and 300$, although 1000watts RMS is a little much for the sub. At that point, I would say step up to a 10w6. MB quarts, while pricey also offer great sound quality, right up there with Alpine

Memphis PR series offers cheap (about 75-100$ per sub) power. They are loud, however not as clean as others. Memphis Mojo series is meant for serious bass. Kicker and Rockford fostgate also offer subs with great powerful output.

There are tons of brands, you basically need to figure out your amps RMS power rating, the type of music you want to listen to and what you want out of your system before we can pinpoint a sub for you.
