  1. I can't give you advice but i can give you information to consider and decide for yourself if a grey would fit into your family.

    1) greys are timid and do not enjoy the sights and sounds of a busy household.  If you have an active family with happy family sounds then a grey probably isn't the choice for you.

    2) Are your dogs large enough to be able to surf the cage and get your grey?  This needs to be considered no matter what species you decide to get.  How will you keep them apart?

    3) Will you be able to handle the loud ear peircing sounds that greys are known to make?

    4) greys are usually one person birds.  If your grey decides that it does not want to be held by the rest of the family what will you do?

    5) Do any family members have allergies?  Greys produce a heavy dust that can make life miserable for someone with allergies.

5a) Do you like to dust?  Expect to dust twice as much as you already do.

    6) why do you want to get a grey?  talking?  cuddling? greys are not cuddly birds and some never talk.

  2. well african grays are expensive. i know of a really nice active, kid friendly bird to get. a while a go i got a 200.00  parrotlet, its a minature parrot... they are really need, colorful, and playful, maybe look into some of those.. up to you!

  3. African grays can be rather expensive and get loud. If you're looking for a good bird for your kids, perhaps get a cockatiel. Tiels are sweet and very smart. The males can get a bit chatty at times though, but it's easy to live with. They love attention and people. Need about 3-4 hours of play time everyday and are less money and work then an african gray, though still a decent amount of work if you care for them well enough.

Do your research before buying any type of pet and make sure you have time and money to take care of a bird. They're more demanding then dogs and need a lot more TLC.

  4. Check out animal first. I wouldnt.
