The passage is ‘Dear Biddy,' Pip said,‘you have the best husband in the whole world, and if you could have seen him by my bed you would have—But no, you couldn’t love him better than you do’” (827). How do i use that quote, but without using the Pip said part.

Do I just do this: “‘Dear Biddy,’…,‘you have the best husband in the whole world, and if you could have seen him by my bed you would have—But no, you couldn’t love him better than you do’” (827).

  1. Since you're leaving out the "Pip said" part, you can simplify it by using just one set of quotation marks, plus ellipses (the ...) to show you've cut out a part of the quotation:   "Dear Biddy ... you have the best husband in the whole world, and if you could have seen him by my bed you would have—But no, you couldn’t love him better than you do” (827).  And yes, the page number does go outside the quotation, since it isn't part of it.

  2. It should read:

"'Dear Biddy,' Pip said, 'you have the best husband in the whole world, and if you could have seen him by my bed you would have- But no, you couldn't love him better than you do ((Author of book unless previously introduced) pg #).'"
