So, I was swimming in the Chesapeak Bay today, and I stepped on something round. I dived under and big it up, and it turned out to be a big clam. It's 6 inches wide. My question is, how do/should I cook it? Is it safe to eat? will it be good to eat or will it be tough like a tire?

  1. Throw it back. The huge ones are like chewing on ruber bands.

  2. no i don't think it will be

  3. There are many resources online for cooking clams.  the key is not to overcook.  Clams will be very rubbery when overcooked.  Otherwise, yuo found yourself a great meal.

Try this site.  Just search for clams.

  4. The larger clams are typically used for chowder.    You will need more than just one 6 inch clam to make a chowder but if you had 3 or 4, you could make a great chowder.    Don't try to eat it raw or steam it because as another poster said, it will be tough.
