I've never danced before in my life, so this may be though. Any advice on what songs to use, what types of steps to use, what to wear, how long for it to be, what type of dance, anything really, would be helpful.

The pageant is on August 10th.

  1. How old Are the Girls?

    How Many Of them?

  2. Perhaps this dance for a beauty pageant. I was a former fan of the Miss USA pageants on TV when they had the "talent" category.

    Some suggestions....

    If a ballet dance....

Focus very highly on spectacular static moves. Held arabesques are great (for example, "arabesque penchee" (--or "leaned arabesque") would be best). Even basic arabesques held would be good.

Use space for the traveling moves. Best moves would be...

    tour de jete

    grand jete

    pas courus

fouettes travelling down "en scene" (on stage)

    If a jazz dance

Focus on "expansion and contraction".  My favorite moves for these concepts are....

    Shoulder isolations

    Tendus

    Stag sits

    Stag leaps

Vegas walks (or Kiki Walks, as you may see in International rumba)

    Chaine turns

For jazz dance, focus on black; but because of the competitiveness of a pageant, try mixing black and pink or black and green (colors that will make you unique). For ballet, try to avoid pink tutus---too cliche.....try a green or red tutu. Black leotards tights are also cliche...a lot of dancers wear them....therefore, try a unique color.....try green leotard tights, for instance.

Most pageant contests mandate that dance routines be no more than 3 minutes long or up to 5 minutes long...so observe the rules for your particular pageant.

    More things...

Jazz dance music should not be too lyrical. Focus on pop or rock or jazzy music. Ballet music should be classical, and if not classical, more "ballady" (that is, "slow music") or lyrical.
