  1. freeride is for powder.

freestyle is for jibs boxes and rails.

you can also get an all mountain board which will do all of them decently but does not perform excellent in any specific category.

  2. Hey! I think you should first start learning to free ride. That usually means being able to ride normally, carving. You're gonna hurt yourself a lot while learning to do that, unless you learn to ride in powder. I learned how to ride on very icy slopes so I hurt myself a lot. Be very careful with you knees, wear protection. The bum will be fine. After you learned how to ride a little you may try learning tricks. The best board for you would be an all-mountain one. You can find very good ones at Burton or Rome. (From Burton I recommend the Feelgood seris and the Troop. From Rome I recommend Blue or Vinyl.) After you learn to do tricks and you want to stick only to freestyle you should buy a freestyle board.

The board should be 151 cm. At first you will think it's too long, but believe me, it's not.

  3. when i was a beginner  i bought a board that was all around good for both. you shouldnt be getting into terrain parks until you can freeride at least some difficult blue runs. many ski resorts (well, here in colorado) wont even let you take terrain park lessons until youre comfortable with the downhill stuff.

mines a burton stigma that i got for like 200 bucks on sale!!

    its great!

dont pay anything less than that though..

you want a GOOD quality board.

even though youre just starting out, you want somwthing that'll last a while.

im still using the same board since i was a beginner, until now, where im jumping down cliffs. :))

keep in mind that freestylers use shorter boards and freeriders use somewhat longer ones.

the length of the board should be somewhere in between your nose and chin... since i was 13 and still growing i bought it up to my nose which was perfect for freeriding for a while, then i started terrain parks and all i had to do was widen my stance a little

    hope this helps!

  4. the rider makes the board not the other way round, my mate rides a trashed 2 year old burton there is no curve in it, shes never waxed it NEVER, the edges are well gone and she can ride freeride amazingly and is pretty good in the park too

best idea try a few out, dont get the cheapest but dont get the most expensive get the one that feels the most comfortable, but dont forget that your boots and bindings are important too!

try looking at smaller brands too they tend to make better boards than the bigger companys *cough*burton*cough*

  5. it depends on your size and also your weight. i reckon you should use a warren miller though.

  6. FREESTYLE IS THE BEST CUZ IF UR GOOD U CAN GET FREE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. First, use a size calculator to get an idea of the size you should be riding - it will also give you some suggestions:

I like Ride and K2 boards, maybe the Ride Rapture or Ride Verona, the K2 Skyla or K2 Luna
