Okay, here's my situation.

I was born in England to American parents, so I have a dual citizenship.

In order to do ROTC and LTC (Leader's Training Course) over the summer, I have to drop my UK citizenship and go to purely an American citizenship.

How do I do this? Do I just have to write a letter to my cadre or should I contact the British Embassy in DC, or do I contact someone in the Army to denounce my other citizenship?

  1. Renounce your UK citizenship by sending a formal letter to the UK Embassy.

  2. British nationality can be renounced by a declaration made to the Home Secretary. You will cease to be a British national on the date that the declaration of renunciation is registered.

Contact the British Embassy in DC for more information:

    3100 Massachusetts Avenue,

    Washington DC,   20008

    Tel:  (202) 588 7800

    Fax: (202) 588 7850

  3. Just a quick question.....

ROTC is a volunteer organization that teaches you about the US military without requiring you to enlist. It is an extra-curricular class or group common in high schools or colleges. Why would you have to drop your citizenship to participate?

I just don't understand why you would have to denounce your UK citizenship if you are recognized as a US citizen.
