Hello.

A dear friend of mine (full-time employed executive; telecommuting so she can care for the couple's adorable 6 month old) married a fabulous man who has just entered the 1st year of a 6-year stint as a resident at the University of PA Hospital. I was able to find a book for him re: things they don't teach you in medical school. I know there are books out there for spouses adjusting to the abusive schedules of the intern/resident to keep marriages intact, etc. Could someone help me on this. I've searched AMAZON so many times, I'm about to lose my mind...in which case I'll need a special doctor myself.

Thank you to all who are able to offer a suggestion.

  2. Searching for such a specific context is probably difficult to find. That type of book sounds like it would be in the self-help or relationship section of the bookstore. Barnes and Noble has a wide variety of such books. Go to your local Barnes and Noble or any other bookstore you prefer and ask an associate to help you locate such a book. I wish I could have been of more help. Good luck in your search.

  3. Your friend should enjoy Elizabeth Brundage's "The Doctor's Wife"

"Set against the backdrop of the battle for abortion rights, this timely but stilted debut thriller features a perfect yuppie couple. Michael Knowles is a successful OB-GYN and his wife, Annie, is a popular journalism professor; they have two precious kids and a big, airy home in upstate New York. But once Michael accepts a position at the only abortion clinic in town, the already heavy strain that his doctor's schedule puts on their marriage sends Annie into the arms of a colleague, notorious painter Simon Haas. Meanwhile, Michael receives increasingly hostile threats from creepy antiabortion activists, suggesting that one, or both, of the Knowles are targets of a vicious terror campaign. The painter's childlike young wife, Lydia, as a menacing, tormented Bible-thumper scarred by a harsh, loveless upbringing, is the enigma that fuels Brundage's examination of what happens when we are drawn to the very things that promise to destroy us. But the lessons here are heavy-handed and the characterizations mechanical. The bad guys wear mirrored sunglasses as they force Michael off the road; the good guys wear jackets emblazoned with angel's wings; and the dialogue is delivered in short sound bites scripted for a TV cliffhanger"
