I thinking about taking a cruise ship job. I am a spa tech but I wouldn't mind doing something else like serving. Could someone please tell me what the money is like? Is it worth it? Is it fun? Also I really want to work for a cruise around europe. Any ideas? Also where is a good place to find a cruise ship job? so many questions I know but thanks for your help!

  1. Yeah-- carnival did not have any visible Americans as staff either! We joked that they kept them in the back to give the cruise a more international flavor.

    Try this site:

  2. Well... I give you the same answer I gave some days ago to another guy. But with something else about spas.

The only advice I give you is first trying on your area, because onboard a cruise ship you will really work HARD, so you MAY LOVE YOUR JOB or at least have a great goal to achieve , or you won't stand. It is not fun as you think (only if you are an entertainer or artist), you're not a passenger!

Try to enter as a staff or officer, your life onboard will be easier! I was offered to be a crew in a wonderful company, but I preferred to be an staff in another one and it is great! A friend that in the same time went to the other, left the job after some months.

The agency that hire for spa in most companies is the Steiner Leisure: http://www.str.co.uk/

Most cruise lines hire directly only staff (guest services like entertainers, artists, shop sellers, casino, ecc.) and officers; for crew (kitchen, waiters, bartenders, ecc) they hire only through agencies.

The best way is trough the companies websites, there you will get proper informed about everything. I got my job in a cruise line sending my CV online. Send your CV and don't give up, I sent mine and was called to an interview only 4 months later!

Here you can find the job descriptions for most positions onboard: http://www.cruiselinejob.com/

And here you can send your CV to some companies. These are my bookmarks, but you can find more surfing the web.

But... are you sure you want to come onboard? As we usually say...

"You don't have to be crazy to work here, we can make you!"

    Good luck!

  3. Aline's answer is excellent and right-on.

    I'd only add two things:

    (1) Spa jobs are also available from Harding Bros:

    http://www.hardingspa.co.uk/workingforus...

Steiner is the concessionaire on most ships, but Harding Bros is doing more and more .

    (2) If you're a spa tech AND good at sales, that's probably your best bet for making money.  Most of your money will come from selling products, so you have to be good at that.  Bartenders do OK, but not necessarily by US/UK standards.

  4. I don't no where to find the jobs, but I do know Royal Caribbean does not hire Americans. I was on Norwegian Cruise Lines and they did have Americans on staff but not many.
