  1. i'm a chef and i use victorinox  as a hunter i use puma.. hope this helps staycool

  2. frost cutlery has some nice knives, and always the best is a gerber. has a knife, s***w driver, scissors, etc....

  3. A Buck knife is the best you can come by, my husband has one and he's been using it for years.  The are one of the higher end brands, he says get one with a 6 inch blade, and the pricing is not too bad, about $60 here in Canada.

  4. praragon and microtech make good knives if u want an otf switchblade boker makes some nice switchblades too google switchblades and go to bladezilla.com they have alot of nice ones $12 to$3000 boker and benchmade are about the best for the money though switchblade or not

  5. I know it may seem like a strange suggestion, but go to Youtube and search for 'hunting knife review'. Keep going through the videos and you will get a good sense of what to look for. The related videos box will have links to videos of varying brands, and if anything catches your eye, open another tab, or browser window and google search the name of the knife you liked.

Another bonus about these videos is that the demonstrators chop just about everything up in these videos. Some of the videos are a little hokey, or poorly done, but at least you might find some inspiration on something you like, or that you think your friend will like. There's some cool stuff on Youtube.

  6. you can go to www.budk.com

  7. SOG, Smith & Wesson, Cold Steel

  8. Buck makes one of the best knives around...here is the one that I use (have three).  Good for just about anything and the blade holds an edge so it doesn't need sharpening!!

  9. The best cheaper knife you can buy is a Kershaw, and if they're legal where you live the Ken Onion models are really slick, almost like a switchblade without a switch, just push on the blade and it flips itself open and locked.  But if you can afford one, I'm a diehard Benchmade fan, particularly the Griptilian series, they cost about $70-$100, the Kershaw's can be found at walmart for about $50. If your'e gonna buy a knife, get a good one, in cutlery, you DEFINATELY get what you pay for.

  10. Getting a high end knife engraved may be cheeper if you had a jewler do the engraving.

I like Emerson Knives. They are truly hard use knives, and are easy to carry, as that mine are folders, but they are big bucks. I own a few, and carry them as hunting knives, as well as duty knives for law enforcement.

I have used a friends knife, and liked it. He bought Knives of Alaska. The pair he bought were two knives in one leather sheath. The sheath was great quality, and the knives are very nice. He bought his at Cabellas, and paid over 300 dollars for 2.

I have used many hunting knives over the years, and I want to tell you that my best all purpose knife is a Cutco knife with an orange handle. I bought it because the year before, I gutted 2 deer, and placed a 200 dollar Buck Knife down and never found it again. It was a camo knife, and I looked for that thing for hours in the dark; it was an afternoon hunt, and I shot a buck and a doe just before the sun went down.

I bought my Cutco knife from my young cousin who got a job with the company as a knife salesman; truthfully I just bought it to get him a sale. As it turned out the blade is very hard stainless, holds an edge well, and is ergonomically perfect for deer hunting. It cost 75 dollars, and I will never lose the orange handled in the leaves. It comes with a thick leather American made sheath, and has served me well for 9 years now.

If high end is what you want, the choices are endless. For a great knife at a reasonable price, look at Cutco, and or Case.
