My husband works in Europe so we get free health care, but we are in America for 3 months out of the year. We live in New York State. What is the best short term health care to get?

I want a service that will make up pay about $20 per doctors visit and will make presecriptions cost, at the most, $8. I had BlueCross when I was under my parents insurance and this is what we paid for their service.

I know nothing about health insurance so I need help. It would be me, my husband, and our son covered.

  1. Short term medical policies are usually high deductible policies, for emergency care only. In my locality I found one ( http://www.rghins.com/ ) for my purpose.

  2. This can't be answere without knowing which State you live in for those three months. Every state has different laws whhich greatly affect the policies and premiums. I have a person who does short term policies, but just for CA, HIi, NV, Or, WA.   Her name is Lisa and call her at 1-800-611-9057 her exentsion is 123 then push the # button. Good luck!

  3. OK, short term medical policies are usually HIGH DEDUCTIBLE policies, for emergency care only.  I don't know of ANY plans that have $8 prescriptions, ANYWHERE.

I think you've got some seriously unrealistic expectations.   I strongly suspect that your parents' costs were subsidized by their employer.

A private family plan, with the coverages you describe, is going to run about $1200 a month.  No maternity benefits, either.  AND, if any of you have anything wrong, like you need maintenance prescriptions, likely they won't cover you at all.

You'll have to talk to a local agent, who can ask even more questions, and balance coverages with cost.

  4. talk to friends & family for referrals.

  5. get progressive
