My mom used to make ziti with sweet sausage and the recipe called for sweetened condensed milk. She lost the recipe when she moved and can't remember how to make it. I've tried looking everywhere for this recipe but I can't find it. Anyone know of this recipe? She got it out of a magazine. It tasted sweet and the sauce was translucent white. Thanks for your help!

  2. You can look on this site - Uncle Phaedrus, the finder of lost recipes. If it's not in the archives, post a request and maybe he can help.

    Good luck.

  3. Here's a white sauce recipe if you take the evaporated milk and switch it for condensed milk it might work, but it sounds like Dulce De Leche sauce:

A versatile recipe using canned milk, is useful as a base for making cheese sauce or macaroni and cheese from scratch.

    WHITE SAUCE:

    Makes 3 cups.

    1/3 cup butter or margarine

    1/3 cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground white or black pepper

    1 (12-ounce) can NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk  ***

    3/4 cup water

Melt butter in small saucepan. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Gradually add evaporated milk and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes just to a boil.

    Herb Sauce:

Prepare 1 cup White Sauce, adding 1 clove finely chopped garlic to butter. Add 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, basil or sage to flour mixture. Proceed as above. Makes 1 cup.

    Cheese Sauce:

Prepare 1 cup White Sauce, decreasing butter and all-purpose flour to 1 tablespoon each and the water to 1/3 cup. Eliminate the salt. Proceed as above. Stir in 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded or cubed processed cheese product until melted. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

    Cheddar Cheese Sauce:

Prepare 1 cup White Sauce, decreasing butter and all-purpose flour to 1 tablespoon each and the water to 1/3 cup. Proceed as above. Stir in 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

Note:  Switch the evaporated milk for condensed milk.

    SAUSAGE GRAVY:

    1 pound bulk pork sausage

    1/4 cup butter

    1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk diluted with 12 ounces of water*

Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

For Sausage Gravy: In 10-inch skillet cook sausage until well done. Drain off  excess fat.

Add butter and melt over medium-high heat; add flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Slowly pour in canned milk diluted with 12 ounces (1 can) water, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook until thickened, stirring occasionally. Season to taste with salt and pepper, as desired.

    * Substitute 3 cups milk for the canned evaporated milk and 12 ounces of water.

Note: For thinner gravy, add a little more milk at a time until desired consistency.

hope this helps.                  god luck and enjoy.
