  1. I would hope there was an alternative. Social Anxiety Disorder doesn't have to be a permanent problem. I would think that removing the 14 year old from school, an important social setting, would only further their fears of social situations. I have almost no background in the field of psychology, but I have minor social anxiety issues and I've found that the best way to overcome them is to slowly and calmly put myself in social situations with people I trust. Also, I hope that with a decision as significant as removing a child of school, you've contacted the appropriate professionals and have sought a number of opinions, outside of Yahoo Answers. Think of all the important events they'll miss in high school.

  2. Here's a website that will be a good start for finding out about homeschooling:

    http://www.successful-homeschooling.com

I can provide more detailed info if you tell us more about what you're looking for.

Removing a child with an anxiety disorder from public school can give him or her time to recover as well as opportunities to take slow steps toward positive social interaction.

It is not necessary to continue public school in order to improve the disorder.  The student has been in public school all this time and it obviously hasn't helped.

  3. I'm homeschooling a now 9yo with social anxiety disorder.

It has been very beneficial, because when allowed to confront their fears at their own pace (rather than being forced into it without a support system in place) they are much more capable of working through those anxieties. They can build the internal supports to remain consistent through their lifetime.

What specific info do you need? More about homeschooling or more about the disorder? Homeschooling someone with s.a.d. will be similar to one without. A good psychologist will also be important so that the child has a reference point and someone who is independent providing input.

    Good luck!

  4. i have anxiety diorder and homeschooling em was the worst thing unless you plan to keep homeschooling her now matter what

i have to go backl to school and ive had over 25 panic attacks being scared for next year

my mom hates it and shwe cant stand me being home

she took me out for the same reason

    think it over

    what i just told you

  5. visions in education.com they are a free homeschool it's great im in it just go to the site and  ask your parent guardian to print out the application and send it to ....... well thats all

  6. Get the book, "Freeing Your Child from Social Anxiety" by Tamar Chansky, PhD.

Apply what you read - regardless of method of education.

From a homeschool perspective, make sure your child gets involved with as many social activities as possible.  If he / she just sits around the house the anxiety will probably worsen not get better.

You may have to start with baby steps.

  7. My sister went through that at the same age after going to a public high school. My mom just pulled her out, contacted the school board, and she took online classes and did the homeschooling work until she was well enough to go back to school.

  8. Hello. I went through this same thing just a year ago. My parents pulled me out of school and put me into online high school.. I am doing soo much better and it helped a ton!  If you would like, I can get you the link to the online program I am using!

    Best of Luck!
