  1. If you post the information, perhaps we can help......

  2. Are you certain that you have the correct place of birth?  The SSDI shows where the SSN was issued, this is not necessarily where the person was born.

I would assume the marriage record below is Don Chaney's second marriage, considering they were in their 50's when they were married.  Is it possilbe your grandmother is from his first marriage?

    Nevada Marriage Index, 1956-2005

  3. One way is to go to Ancestry.com, but most info is not free.

You could sign up for a trial membership, they have different promos going on at different times. Usually a free week, but you will need a credit card and then if you are not happy with the service you can unsubscribe and they will not charge you.

If you decide to become a member they have different plans and levels of membership, and you can join on a monthly or annual membership.

I strongly suggest to any one a membership, you will marvel at the info you can find!! You will wonder why you wasted so much time by not doing it!

If you have her SSN number go to the Social Death Index, I think it is on site at Ancestry.com but it is free you can either type in her SSN or name and see what there is there.

Some states gather more info than others. There is also a link to send away for a copy of the info Soc Sec has on file but that does cost something.

That said, if your not interested in spending any money on a service, I suggest googling the last names you have.

There are so many family genealogies popping up on line daily and just families searching for other family members.

If you know where she was born or lived you might also post info on sites where members can share info - Rootsweb.com is a free site that you can look up and post family info.

About.com also has a genealogy site and you can either read the info it has or get a free newsletter on tips on how to do a search. I believe they also have or had a free video course. Check it out.

So I have given you a couple of ideas to work with, what you do with it is up to you.

I wish you much success in finding out about your family.

  4. Someone here will help, if you give them a clue.

Post your grandmother's (married) name, birth date, death date; use "04 July 1776", not "7/4/76 or "4/7/76". Post her death place (City. COUNTY, state, not "Lakeside"). Also her birth place, if you know it.

    Repeat for your grandfather.

  5. Go to Ancestry.com and trace all family members.

  6. Why don't you try the site listed below 101 Ways to Research Your Family Tree for Free
