Im a junior in high school, and would love to study abroad for a semester or year in spain, but for me they are all pretty expensive, any programs that you know of that offer scholarships would be great!

  1. The cheapest program out there is Rotary. It's also a very good one, but very competitive! The biggest problem you may have is timing. I'm not sure when their deadline for next year is, but if it has not already passed ... it will be VERY soon! Most organizations are now placing students for the 2008-2009 school year ... I know, I just picked ours!

    Good luck!

  2. Your best bet would be to try to go with Rotary, which is the most affordable, but also the most difficult to be accepted to.  It's too late to go your senior year (you need to apply in the fall for the following school year), but you could always go during your gap year after high school.  I went after I graduated high school and was a "second year senior" in Ecuador, and it worked out really well for me.  You might run into some age restrictions for some countries, but there are still a lot of countries that you could go to even if you're already 18.

Here's the link to the Rotary Youth Exchange website:

Rotary is organized locally, so the cost from district to district  will vary, as well as the availability of any scholarships.  Call your Rotary Club's Youth Exchange Officer (you can find a link to your local club on the website above), and they can tell you what the costs are and when you need to apply.

Good luck!  Being an exchange student is absolutely one of the best experiences of my life.

  3. well, studying abroad in itself is very expensive. depending on the lenght of time you choose, from one semester to a whole year, you're looking at anywhere from $7,000 to $17,000.  try going to this website and checkout the packages and prices. good luck
