I need help finding the best colleges with musical theatre programs.?

I'm going to be a sophmore in high school. And we all know that college admission is very competitive that you have to start planning now! (:

I need help finding the best colleges with a musical theatre program (that includes drama, vocal, and dance!)

within the following areas:

California

New York City (my home<3)

or the state of NY

Tisch School for the Arts at NYU is a great school for musical theatre.  A couple of the SUNY schools have musical theatre programs too.  Apparently there is a program at Cornell also.  Good luck with the college search! :)

I&#039;m sure if you want to pursue this you already know that its tough.  If you major in musical theater there are lots of other ways in which you can branch off after you get your degree, other than just being a &quot;famous&quot; performer.  That being said, a lot of actors are professional and working around the country without being famous Broadway stars.  So I don&#039;t think you should hesitate about this college major if that is what you are interested in at the moment.  It doesn&#039;t box you in that much or mean you are screwed over if you dont hit it big.  I don&#039;t like when people try to emphasize how hard it is in this business, because 1) duh we know; and 2) they may not be as familiar with the business and think of it in extremes.  It&#039;s not Broadway or nothing.  You can be humble and working and make your living without beng famous, so if you are in it for the art and not the fortune, don&#039;t hesitate.

That being said: NYU-Tisch, University of Hartford isn&#039;t that far from NYC, Ithaca upstate.  I think UCLA in CA.  These are all top notch super competetive programs so keep in mind that you will want to include some more &quot;safety&quot; schools in your list of ones to apply to.  Always do google searches, and use collegeboard.com, has a search engine and is a great resource.

NYU is known for thier theater program.

Here&#039;s a warning. Everyone wants to be an actor and there isn&#039;t much of a demand for them (especially in musical theater). It is really hard to get a job as one. Only study this if you are sure that that is the only thing you can be really successful at. If you can be successful at anything else, I stongly suggest that you rethink your career plans.
