Question:

I need help finding the best place for a vacation in Dominican Republic?

There's a lot to this question:

- Me and 2 or 3 friends (all males in our 20s) want to go to the Dominican Republic around January for about a week

- We need help figuring out the best resort to go to. Given our demographic, we obviously are looking for the best place to party and meet girls. We need a pretty beach, good music, and a setting which will lend itself to meeting girls the best. Money is not an issue, we are all willing to spend upwards of 3000 dollars for this vacation.

Can anyone give me some clues as to what resorts would suit what we are looking for?

  1. Sosua is right up your alley lots of clubs, excitement and parties however most AI resorts won't allow you to bring in overnight guests.  Sosua has many small hotels where that isn't a problem.  You fly into Puerto Plata and Sosua is a ten minute  taxi ride.  Our Yahoo Sosua group below is non commercial but has lots of hotels in our links which may be of help.

  2. Best spot to accomplish what you are describing is Puerto Plata, it has enough night life, nice resorts and an ok beach depending where you go. I would not recommend going to Punta Cana since a more family oriented site and the city is far from the resort which means you won’t find much parties or girls.

  3. punta planta

  4. If money isn't tight, completely forget about the "A.I." type resort straight off the bat.  They are for mass groups of (cheap) people on a budget, and it will not be easy to meet girls except other guests.  They also tend to serve cheap booze.

Sosua and Cabarete both have a fair amount of nice small hotels, restaurants and bars where you probably wouldn't spend much more than in an AI.  The added advantage is that you can eat what you want, when you want, where you want and can come and go with whomever you want.  There are plenty of girls (local as well as other tourists) to meet.  You also won't be tagged like a monkey with one of those silly hospital-band things.

Cabarete is a bit more trendy and tends to have a younger and more active crowd.

Other good locations are Las Terenas and Boca Chica.  You could also spend the first few and last few days around Cabarete/Sosua and go to Las Terenas for a few days in between.  Who knows maybe you'll meet some girls who would want to go for a ride for three or four days.

Get out and party and check out the island.  Don't sit around in a lame-o all-inclusive.

  5. DR is more of a family oriented destination unless you're going during spring break.  I would recommend you go to Jamaica instead.

If you're bent on the DR, my suggestion is the Punta Cana area which is on the east coast.  The resorts are a little nicer overall, and the weather is normally better too.  Most recently, I stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe in Punta Cana.  I enjoyed it very much.  I thought it was a good resort for both families and singles alike.

  6. As "Yagi" already told you Puerto Plata is the best for you guy's!

The best hotels/resorts for this purpose are located in Playa Dorada (14 hotels/resorts) There you will find enough possibilities to make new friends (female) and have a very good time. I would suggest to look for the Blue Bay Resort (adults only) good cuisine, lot to do (activities) and the disco's are steps away from the resort. Also if you like you can charter a boat for 1 day trip with your "girl-friends" and have a blast!!!!

  7. Puerta Plata is not a tourist town.   Sosua or Caberete is the best for the single guy scene.  Depending on what you want you can get a good cheap hotel in Sosua for about $30/night pp, or you can get some nice place in Caberete.  The towns are only about 10 miles apart and it's about 5 miles to the PP airport from there.

I lived in Sosua for about nine months.  I think Rockys Blues Bar is the best if you want to bring girls back to your room or Tropix if you want a nice place but no girls in the room.  Marco the owner and Ted the bartender will give you advice that will save you a ton of money.  I recommend booking there for the first few days($25/night?) to learn the ropes.

You won't meet any girls for free down there except maybe in Caberete where there are a bunch of european girls working in the bars. Caberete is the place for fun sports like kiteboarding and windsurfing, but there is not much left of the Dominican culture there.  Caberete is great when they have live music on the beach at night with dancers--all free.

Use common sense with the girls.  Don't let them stay overnight and avoid too much booze. If you fall asleep on them and your wallet/camera is gone, forget calling the cops.  Some guys are dumb enough to give them a room key.  Any girl on the street will pickpocket you so be careful.  All "massage" places will be male oriented, like this one:

I use to hang out at La Passion just because girls who didn't work at the bar couldn't hassle me.  They switch the girls out every few months to keep them fresh.  Rocky's is also good to hang out and the Shark Bar around the corner.

If s*x is what you are after, you can't beat Sosua.  Viagra is about $2/pill in most bars and if you want to go all night long or do more than one or two girls a day.

Stay away from C'est La Vie in Sosua. It is a tourist trap and they rip off every tourist that comes in there.

Finally do not do any drugs down there. Anyone who sells to you can turn you into the cops for a "finders fee"  If you get busted for cocaine it will cost a lot more than $3000 to get out of trouble and Dominican jails are not a place you want to hang out in.

I had a condo there for $400/month with a pool/satellite TV and spent about $1000/month total. It's cheap if you know what you are doing

  8. Just got back from Punta Cana and if you are wanting to party I am not sure this vacation spot for you. We stayed at the Dreams resort and even though there was 7 bars, casino and etc it got boring afterawhile since there is no nightlife outside of the resort. This country is not really a place to roam around in. We were an hour away from the airport and there is was nothing around us at all except poverty and a thirld world country.Your best bet is going to Cancun or even Puerto Vallarta for a party atmpshere. I think DR is not the best choice. Unless perhaps you stay at one of the Bravo resorts. We chose to go here because it was our honeymoon. We went to Puerto Vallarta two years ago and they had party buses, all kinds of hot bars, pretty girls, english speaking people and etc.

  9. Hey! So many people love going to Puerto Plate but really its not a big deal. I recommend going to Bavaro. It is more of a tropical place and it has more energy. I have not been there but my family has, but remember I'm Dominican and i know that Puerto plata is a good place.

What ever you do have a open mind!
