Does anyone know how to answer these questions??

“Antacids”

A) What are they?

B) What are they used for?

C) How do they work? Give 3 examples!

PS: Please just give me answers and not information copy and pasted from websites!!

  1. The following, I assure you, is NOT copied and pasted from anywhere, it is from my own knowledge.

    A)..Antacids are Basic (Alkaline) substances. (Anti-acids).

    Some are made that work on the production processes of stomach acids..Like Ranitidine (Zantac). I know because I've used it.

    B)..Substances used to neutralise acidity to ease upset stomachs.

    C)..Baking soda (Bi-carb) solution that reacts with the HCl acid of the stomach to neutralise it. It produces NaCl, CO2 (Burp!) and water. NaHCO3 + HCl = NaCl + H2O + CO2.

    Calcium Carbonate tablets have the same effect but produce Calcium chloride , CO2 and Water.

    CaCO3 + 2HCl = CaCl2 + H2O + CO2.

    Magnesium Hydroxide solutions (Milk of Magnesia) is also used for the same purpose.

    Mg(OH)2 + 2HCl = MgCl2 + 2H2O
