I'm interested in becoming a counsellor. This is what I've read and heard, please tell me if it's correct:
- the only formal qualification you need is the Diploma in Counselling, the degree in Psychology is not compulsory and you don't have to be accredited with BACP or any of those bodies
- the counselling profession is not monitored as such by the UK government yet, so anyone and everyone can claim to be a counsellor and set up their own practice
- counselling is not a well-paid profession
So far, I've completed NCFE Level 2 in Counselling Skills. I plan to do Level 3 in Counselling Skills and Theory and that will lead me into the Diploma and then after that, I'm a fully qualified/certified counsellor, is that correct? And I'm assuming some psychology would be covered in the diploma? Would it be a good idea to earn a degree in Psychology alongside my diploma, or is it not necessary?
PLLEEEEEAAASSSSEEEE HEELLLLPPPP thanks, God bless xx
