I am totally ashamed to say my little girl just turned 2 and still sucks a nasty ol bottle. Its mainly when she is tired and throughout the night. Im a first time young mom and I just need some advice on a good way to do this. I really want her off before her baby brother gets here.

  1. just throw them away! give her like a day or two  adjust(meaning you)

  2. if you try the above advice people have given and she still won't stop using the bottle, what some people I know have done which worked was to give the bottles to Santa when Christmas came around.

It's 5 months to go, so you could talk to her about how he'll give her a nice new cup and take the bottle away for the baby reindeers to use.

sounds far fetched I know, but for them it worked.

Obviously this only works if you believe in Santa Claus!   :o)

  3. Throw it out. She doesn't need it. It might be a day or two of adjustment but she'll be fine.

  4. Put something really enticing to her in a sippy cup. Get her really excited about whatever you give her...(pop, koolaid...choc milk) Make sure she sees you pour it in the sippy cup. When she takes a drink and enjoys what is in the cup...cheer for her and then throw her bottles away in front of her and get rediculously excited about the cup and praise praise praise her! Best Wishes!

  5. toss them in the garbage.  if they do not exist in the house -she cannot use them!!

  6. Warm her milk up in a sippy cup and give her juice during the day in another sippy cup. Let her try an drink from like a straw when you go out to eat, that way she can start getting more familiar with different forms of drinking.

  7. Take her to the store and let her pick out her own sippy cup....(my daughter picked out spongbob)and explain to her that she is a big girl now...then put one of her favorite drinks in the cup when you get home and tell her how proud you are of her then get rid of the bottles

Also picking out her own sippy cups helps her to feel that she is a part of the decision.

Here's what I did with my first daughter cause she had a tough time...it may sound silly but it worked.

It's kinda like the tooth fairy...we put all her bottles in a bag and I told her  that because she was a big girl and didn't need those anymore if she hung the bag on her door nob..the baba fairy(I know it's silly but she was 1 in a half and it worked)would take the baba's for her and leave her a surprise...she got all excited, she put all of them in the bag and in the morning was so excited to see that she had a present.

Hey it worked and now she's 11 and can't believe that she fell for that....LOL

So you could also try and make the transition fun too...........good luck and no worries she'll get used to it fast.

  8. I'd take it one day at a time.  Keep giving her the sippy cup reassure her that she's a big girl and doesn't need bottles anymore. I'd take it really slow on not giving her one at night, because it's become a security thing! She feels "safer" with her bottle.  So I'd give her a sippy at night when she goes to bed (if you put her to bed with a bottle or cup) and if she's really reluctant just keep working with her.  It'll take time to break that habbit of the whole bottle thing, but it's do-able! Just take it one day at a time! My daughter is almost a year old and only gets a bottle at night when she goes to bed, BUT she will also take a sippy cup if that's what I give her.  Good luck!!

  9. hERE IS WHAT I DID:  I PUT ALL THE BOTTLES WITH MY YOUNGEST HELPING ME IN A WAL MART BAG AND GAVE HIM A SIPPY CUP AND SAID NO MORE BOTTLES U ARE A BIG BOY AND U NEED TO DRINK FROMA BIG BOY CUP... THEY WORK WONDERS TOO AT NIGHT AS SOME ARE MADE LIKE A BOTTLE TO MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT EASIER... MY SON TOOK TO IT RIGHT AWAY AND NEVER HAD TO DO THE BOTTLE THING AGAIN... TRY IT AND SEE IF IT WORKS... ALSO IF SHE TRANSISTIONS EASILY OFFER A REWARD FOR HER AND SHE WILL DO IT GOOD I PROMISE...
