I have a WGR614 v5 router. I had it working on my laptop once before. I had to have a new hard drive installed and now I cannot get it to work. I followed the instructions perfectly, but the router will not detect my internet connection. HELP!

  1. I am guessing you must have had this wireless network professionally installed, and then your laptop hard drive went on you, so now you are stuck installing it yourself.  If my speculation is correct, this is good information to know.

I would just call Netgear's tech support.  Have them walk you through setting up a secure wireless.  You probably have security settings on your router, and the information you have on your computer needs to match it in order for your computer and router to talk.

  2. When you say it will not detect your internet connection what do you mean?

First of all, getting a new hard drive in your laptop has nothing to  do with the router.  If anything isn't configured it's the laptop.

Do you see a wireless icon in the bottom right of your computer?  If so, does it display a list of wireless networks when you double-click it?  If so, is your network listed.

  4. You should NOT be playing with the router, as it is standalone and has no relationship to what is loaded on your machine. you need to re-install the hardware drivers on the computer, then use the card's wireless connection program to find the router, set the encryption key and connect. If you have changed any settings on the router it may need totally re-configuring to work again.
