about 2 inches long, LOTS of legs (maybe 50 total?), dark in colour, brown or black, and counting the legs an inch or so wide.

It doesn't look like a centi/millpede. I'd have a picture, but the thing ran a little too fast after a dose of bug spray and is hiding under my couch :( (Where I hope it stays!!!)

I live in upstate New York, if the climate is needed.

  2. the mouth parts of most of the bugs are backwardly directed,

and they are modified into needles, or a tube enclosing them, for sucking the sap.

  3. probably just some random beetle.

    no problem.

    dark colors usually aren't bad

but bright varied colors can mean its poisonous

  4. Not a direct answer but if you look up user Gary Oster and IM him he's very good at this sort of question.

  5. Sounds like a common house centipede.
