It was really small, black, and it looked like it had a lot of fins. It was about the size of a cardinal tetra, and it had the word "shark" in it's name. It's not an actual shark though. I'm thinking about buying it tomorrow, and I'm trying to see if it'll get along with my betta fish.

It was in the same tank as the tetras, if that helps you in identifying it.

  1. sounds like like the panamanian del prado shark

  2. EDIT #1 The Soup n**i already gave us the website for 'Black Shark' so i included the site for the 'Columbian Shark Catfish' below

(by the way, was the 'Black fish' swimming around the mid-tank and moving fast

.....or was it combing along the bottom, looking for food?)

EDIT #2:   hah-hah-hah, just thinking 'out-of-the-box' now...maybe the store has not enough people to tell her what is the fish...and had mislabeled the stock in that tank?

....lots of fins?......hmmmm, pleco? lots of fin area

.....by the way i like my little 'zebra pleco'

(see site below for zebra pleco)

    Original Answer:

....the 'Black Shark' has a dark grey-ish brown body and black fins

...the Black Shark grows up to 18" as an adult and is aggressive toward others....only the othe aggressive tpyes should be kept with that one.....large gouramis, cichlids, aggressive barbs

  3. Bettas don't get along with many fish, so check with your pet store.  That's why they are called "fighting fish", and are usually kept by themselves.

  4. perhaps a small juvenile shark. It has grey stripes on it. i forgot its name.

  5. its calld a rainbow shark

  6. A Black Shark? http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquar...  Did it have red fins?  If so, possibly a Rainbow Shark ( http://www.elmersaquarium.com/image_fish... ) or Redtail Shark ( http://www.fishlore.com/Pictures/Profile... ).  None of these freshwater "sharks" would be good choices with a Betta-- these fish are VERY territorial, and will quickly go after the Betta's long fins.

EDIT: Iridescent Shark? http://catfish.cz/clanky/pangas/pang_3.j...  Unfortunately, that cute little inch long fish will grow into a 3+ foot monster.  For obvious size reasons, these aren't great fish for any normal aquaria (unless you've got several hundred gallons of water to work with).  Here's the same species as an adult: http://fishbase.sinica.edu.tw/images/thu...

  7. That is most likely a black shark. "iminlove" is totally wrong. Bala Sharks only have black on the tips of the fins and tail. You described it as black. So i'm assuming you mean all black. I don't think it would be good to mix those two fish unless your tank is 30+ gallons.

  8. ok...whats the big fuss here...go back to the pet store..and chk out the name urself..ask them if they don't have the wrong label...and confirm...
