I live in Northern California in the mountains. The snake is yellow and black banded, with what appeared to be orange triangle shaped markings. Any ideas what this could be?

  1. maybe

    Graybanded Kingsnake

    Red Milk Snake

    maybe

  2. hopefully not poisonous =p

  3. The yellow and black make it sound like a California king snake but they don't have the orange triangles. Get your hands on a suitable field guide. Stebbins wrote one for the Peterson series of guides. It's fairly easy to use.

    "Colorado Desert Shovel-nosed Snake"

    Maybe...?
